The Mystery of Shadow Lake (Kindle)

The Mystery of Shadow Lake
This ebook by author Loretta Montambo is a murder mystery, with some supernatural elements. It takes place in a small fictional town near the north woods of Michigan Two girls disappear and the story focuses on solving the crime with a surprising outcome.

Loretta Montambo says, "I like to paint landscape, play music and write. I play the guitar and piano." When asked how she got started she thought for a moment before adding, "I have always enjoyed telling stories, then, I thought why not write them? Everyone enjoys a good story. I hope to bring enjoyment to my readers. I also write poetry in my spare time. I really like writing. I grew up in the North, in the USA. It gets cold here and the winters are long, writing can also be a great pass-time as we wait for spring."

A Mormon Massacre by Joseph M. Rinaldo

This modern-day novel is based on the actual massacre of innocent Americans by Mormon zealots in the Utah Territory. In present-day Nashville, Tennessee, Jeremiah grows up with a prejudice against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the murders in 1857 of his ancestors at Mountain Meadows. Until the 1995 Oklahoma City attack, this was the most deadly act of terrorism against US citizens.

Jeremiah’s hatred multiplies when his father, Luke, informs him that his mother suffered abuse at the hands of her Mormon husband in a previous marriage. Due to his father’s association with the Mormon Victim’s Action Committee, Jeremiah gets an opportunity to expose the current wide-spread and Church-accepted practice of abusing women. With his father’s encouragement and the knowledge of his mother’s horrific experience, Jeremiah accepts M-VAC’s offer to train and insert him into an LDS community in hopes of collecting evidence to prosecute the abusers. Jeremiah’s objective broadens when he sees all the atrocities committed by Mormon zealots. Now he wants to expose the entire Church as a violent and dangerous fraud.

Author Rinaldo lives currently in Nashville, Tennessee. From this most American of southern cities he writes about the violent activities of a Mormon sect in A MORMON MASSACRE, the internal turmoil in the CIA in A SPY AT HOME, and about deadly gangs in HAZARDOUS CHOICES. You've probably heard that authors write what they know. Think it's true?

Meet Author Gary Goldstein

Jew in Jail,  Gary Goldstein (CreateSpace, 2010)

Gary Goldstein received a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Long Island University and worked as a broadcast associate, researcher and assistant producer for two major television networks. As an alumni member of the Coney Island Hospital Chemical Dependency Program, Goldstein is currently a motivational speaker and hopes to serve as a shining example of how to overcome one’s negative past.

JEW IN JAIL "is the true story of the nearly six years that I spent incarcerated in various correctional facilities throughout the state of New York. It deals with my attempts at recovery from past addictions to alcohol, drugs and gambling, as well as my efforts to turn my life around in hopes of becoming a solid citizen and successful member of society upon my release. In addition, my book also provides insight into how I, as a minority in prison, was forced to fend for myself against all of the mistreatment at the hands of the powers that be from the Department Of Correctional Services in this "world within the real world," as well as the daily grind of doing time with hardened criminals, many of whom I felt no close connection to, all the while continuing to fight for the true justice I strongly felt I wasn't afforded during my lower court proceedings."

A perfect addition to collections of social science, prisons and prisoners, criminal justice, biography, drug addiction and recovery, and social justice.

GHOSTLY IMAGES

British author Peter Townsend has released Ghostly Images, a gripping mystery set in Victorian England.

Whitby, North Yorkshire – 1894

Two apprentice photographers, David Taylor and John Evans, find themselves unemployed and desperate for work when their employer dies.

They fall into the clutches of Hood, a notorious charlatan, who is eager to exploit them as “spirit photographers” with the aid of the infamous Tate Camera now owned by David. This notorious camera is said to have the ability not only to photograph spirits, but it can predict how and when the person photographed will die.

Reluctantly, David and John become immersed into the dubious, murky trade of spirit photography. Although David stubbornly refuses to believe in the supernatural, he becomes unnerved when ghostly images start to appear on the untouched photographs of young women who soon fall victim of a man people are calling “The Whitby Ripper.”

Lucy Shaw, an ambitious reporter from The Whitby Herald, wants to expose both Hood and spirit photography as a fraud. She is a modern career woman eager to cover more exciting news than the flower shows her editor assigns. Her search for the truth attracts the attention of David, and possibly that of a murderer.

David is charming, handsome, a real lady-killer in every way. A relative newcomer to Whitby, he is reluctant to talk about his past or his direct link to the recent murder victims.

Is there any truth to the rumours about the Tate Camera? Can it predict the near future? Can it expose a killer?

Meanwhile…the Whitby Ripper waits for his next victim.

It was some time before Sherlock Holmes recovered from the events of late 1871. Physically, it took many months; mentally, it took many years. He was bound by both a promise to the living and a commitment to honour the dead, and being so bound he set the full force of his will to rebuilding the shattered pieces of his life. Yet sometimes will alone is not enough. Part I of The Consulting Detective Trilogy, follows 18 year old Sherlock Holmes from the end of The Crack in the Lens through his university career. It tells the story of his mental and emotional journey to his decision to become a detective as well his early cases and training.

FOCUS ON AUTHOR DARLENE A. CYPSER

The Crack in the Lens by Darlene Cypser
Publisher: Foolscap & Quill,  2010
ISBN: 978-0971855250

If someone had asked Sherlock Holmes later in the year, there is little doubt that he would have said his life began that spring day in 1871 when he met Violet Rushdale upon the moors and ended in the winter some months distant. His mother would have disputed the former claim, and many, both friend and foe, would come to deny the latter. Yet what happened that year nearly cost him his life and his sanity, and strongly influenced the man he was to become. It is well known that the toughest steel that makes the sharpest swords must be plunged into the fire, then beaten and reshaped. So it is as well with the best and wisest of men.

Darlene A. Cypser was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but lived in Poughkeepsie, New York, during elementary school and high school before returning to Norman, Oklahoma for college and law school. In 1987 she moved to Boulder, Colorado where she practiced law until 1999 when she began producing and selling movies, and running other businesses. Darlene is currently producing a movie set in 18th century England based on Alfred Noyes’ poem The Highwayman.

WESTERN READ A WINNER

Years of research went into the writing of the western novel Sulfur River by Art Anthony of Tuttle, Oklahoma. The author followed the path actual Civil War soldiers had taken in the humid terrain of northeast Louisiana. Every page breaths with characters and dialogue rich in a sense of realism as a story is spun out of challenge, turmoil, and growth.  As the Civil War comes to an end, a desperate Confederate army drafts a young 15 year old and the boy suddenly finds himself in the middle of the Red River Campaign. The boy has a head for business and sees potentials all around which could set him and his friend, Darrell, up for life.  Yet, they are not the only ones keeping an eye open and in the chaos of war there are those ready to take opportunity and advantage.  The two young men find strange but natural allies in their struggle to survive among neighboring farmers, escaped slaves, Indians and even Union soldiers.  A thrilling and satisfying journey awaits for those who dare the Suphur River (The book is available in both print and audio versions from Tate and on Amazon. SCHOLAR'S LIFE FOCUS OF NEW BOOK

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 6, 2012

Description: (optional): Norman author announces release of new book, a biography of a Pentecostal clergy, scholar, and author.

Norman, Oklahoma, April 6, 2012 – The life and influence of a British born clergy, educator, and author is the topic of the newest book from Norman author Marilyn A. Hudson.  In Noel Brooks: A Life Shining and Burning, 1914-2006, Hudson explores the work and life of a man known widely as a true gentleman and scholar.

The Reverend Noel Brooks (1914-2006) was an English clergy, educator, and author who ministered in the Wesleyan Methodist, the Elim Pentecostal Church, The Bible Pattern Fellowship (and wrote a biography of the leader and well known revivalist, George Jeffreys) and in the Pentecostal Holiness Church in both Great Britain and North America. In the mid-1970’s he taught religion on the campus of what was then the Oklahoma City Southwestern College (now Southwestern Christian University).  Over his life, he wrote numerous articles, many books, delivered countless lectures, and served as president of a small college in Bristol and one in Ontario.

Using letters, personal papers, unpublished manuscripts, interviews, examinations of numerous resources and analysis of the published writings of Brooks, the author presents an introduction to his life, work and the influences, which shaped his theology. This simple work seeks to examine some of the influences and explores, in their historical and social contexts, some of the major activities in the life of this man.  “He was a scholar’ noted Hudson, “whose life of spirituality, sacrifice, and insight, left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know the man or read his work.”

The book will be enjoyed by any who read biographies and a welcome addition for library collections on religious history, Pentecostalism, and related topics.  The softbound, illustrated, 200-page book is available on Amazon.

Hudson is an educator and author with degrees in history and library and information studies from the University of Oklahoma. Her previous works include One Night Club and a Mule Bar: The First 60 Years of Southwestern Christian University, Elephant Hips Are Expensive, Those Pesky Verses of Paul: Women and the New Testament, and  In Her Own Words: The Inspirational Poetry of Velma Terry, 1915-1999.

WOODLAND ERA TALE CAPTIVATES

Bernard Albaugh’s book, Red Wolf and Little Coyote: Their Trail is a captivating saga of characters – late woodland era hunters and gatherers - facing common human dreams of their future, hope for love, and the challenges of life. Set against a backdrop of the pristine world just west of the Mississippi River along the Des Moines River in what is now Iowa, the very human story is absorbing, pulling the reader into a world both familiar and unique.  Growing into young men, the two main characters learn the rituals and meaning of their place in their tribal society. It is a book of the transcendent and universal story of how each life – no matter when it is lived - influences the flow of history through acts of loyalty, love and courage.  Readers who have enjoyed such books as Morgan Llyewelyn’s The Horse Goddess  or Jean Auel’s Clan of the Cave Bear, are sure to enjoy this work of Albaugh’s.
